Connecting for Climate Change Action
Connecting for Climate Change Action
Goals for the Project
Connecting for Climate Change Action is a multidisciplinary course that combines Western and Indigenous approaches to educate and motivate action on climate change. Created as a collaborative effort between the Department of Geography & Environment, the Office of Indigenous Initiatives, the Centre for Teaching and Learning, and the Instructional Technology Resource Centre, this course is a testament to the movement we can make when we combine our skills and knowledge.
How Did We Achieve the Project Goals?
In collaboration with Sara Mai Chitty, Beth Hundey, Serena Mendizábal, Katrina Moser, and Hawlii Pichette, the ITRC worked with the course’s teaching team on all media aspects of this course. We developed a design style for the course in collaboration with local Indigenous artist Hawlii Pichette, produced lecture and interview videos, created countless animations to help visualize complex concepts, and assisted with the course’s formatting in both OWL Sakai and Coursera.
This project was the recipient of the 2022-2023 Vice-Provost (Academic Programs) Award for Excellence in Collaborative Teaching and the 2023 D2L Innovation in Teaching and Learning award. The course is open to all interested learners via Coursera.
